Tennis Legend Gardnar Mulloy Named Honorary Chair for JOBC Tennis Reception

The Junior Orange Bowl Tennis Committee is proud to announce tennis great Gardnar Mulloy as the honorary chairperson of this year’s Tournament Kickoff Reception at the Biltmore Hotel. The invitation-only event will mark the beginning of the 50th anniversary of the Junior Orange Bowl International Tennis Championship.

Mulloy, a legend in the South Florida Tennis community, won 122 national and 27 international championships, including four U.S. Championships in 1942, 1945, 1946, and 1948 and a Wimbledon Championship in 1957. Mulloy was inducted into the International Tennis Hall of Fame in 1972.

Mulloy has a strong connection to the South Florida tennis community as he served as the first coach of the University of Miami tennis team beginning in 1935 and has been a strong supporter of the Junior Orange Bowl International Tennis Tournament for many years. Mulloy served as a chair referee for the Tournament in 1982 and has always encouraged young tennis players to participate in the yearly event.

The 50th Junior Orange Bowl International Tennis Championship will take place on December 14-23 with boys and girls in Under 12 and Under 14 divisions playing at various locations across Coral Gables and Miami. The International Championship has hosted some of tennis’ most recognizable names including, Juan Martin del Potro, Andy Murray, Caroline Wozniacki, Andy Roddick, Justine Henin, Jim Courier, Mary-Joe Fernandez, Jimmy Connors, and Monica Seles.
