24th Annual Junior Orange Bowl Creative Writing Contest

(Coral Gables, September 1, 2011) – The theme for the 24th annual Junior Orange Bowl (JOBC) Creative Writing Contest is “Why We Need to Care about Nature and the Environment.” This essay contest is open to all eighth grade middle-school students in Miami-Dade County. Students from public, private and home schools are eligible to participate in this essay competition.

Prizes are awarded to the three winning students and their teachers. First Place winner receives $100, Second Place $75, and Third Place $50. Winning students and teachers are presented gift awards from our Creative Writing Committee sponsors. Entries must be postmarked by November 15, 2011. Essays may be up to 500 words.  

The awards ceremony is held at the monthly meeting of the South Florida Writers Association. This event will be at Books & Books in Coral Gables on January 7, 2012. All finalists will receive a Junior Orange Bowl certificate.

The South Florida Writers Association co-sponsors the Creative Writing event. The Creative Writing Committee has the support of Books & Books, Miami Art Museum, HistoryMiami, and Friends of the Everglades.
